Alternative and Incarcerated Education

Purpose

NYS alternative education provides options for students who are at risk of dropping out of school to remain engage in an alternative learning environment that focuses on their particular skills, abilities and learning styles. Alternative education programs have for decades provided additional pathway for students to complete their secondary education and transition to a post- secondary or career option.

Alternative and Incarcerated Education

P-12 SSS is responsible for three alternative education programs that serve at risk youth. These are the Alternative Transition Program (ATP); the Alternative High School Equivalency Preparation Program (AHSEP; and the Education of Incarcerated Youth Program (IY).
